Dr. Robert S. Biscup, M.S., D.O., F.A.O.A.O., is a board-certified, fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon who has earned international recognition for his developments in major reconstructive, previously failed, and minimally invasive lumbar spine surgery, including laser microsurgery and micro-decompression laminoplasty.

Dr. Biscup values a compassionate and empathetic approach as much as he values innovation, making patient-centered care the hallmark of his private practice at Biscup Spine. Dr. Biscup was trained in the osteopathic tradition of holistic care and takes special care to thoroughly educate his patients, ensuring all questions are answered, and open lines of communication are maintained from first appointment through last follow-up, and beyond.

Dr. Arthur Steffee, considered the father of modern-day spine surgery, mentored Dr. Biscup and collaborated with him on several technological advancements, patents, and procedures that revolutionized spine surgery. Dr. Steffee has called Dr. Biscup “one of the best, most talented surgeons he ever worked with, stating, “Dr. Biscup has no peers.”

A Natural Leader & Educator

Dr. Biscup has traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia, lecturing and demonstrating the surgical techniques, instrumentation, and implants he helped develop over an award-winning career of 30-plus years.

Before establishing Biscup Spine, the first spinal-care concierge practice, in 2007, Dr. Biscup served on the staff of the prestigious Cleveland Clinic in the neurological surgery and orthopedic surgery departments. Dr. Biscup was named director of the Regional Spine Care Program and chairman of the Cleveland Clinic Florida Spine Institute. He received the Outstanding Educator Award from the Cleveland Clinic’s Orthopedic Residency Training Program. He previously served as an orthopedic consultant for the Cleveland Indians and as a clinical professor in orthopedic surgery at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Biscup is an active member of the Palm Beach community, a supportive Founder Member of the Kravis Center, and a member of the Board of Directors of Palm Beach Opera.

Education

Dr. Biscup is a cum laude graduate of Hiram College with a Bachelor of Arts degree and Departmental Honors in Chemistry and earned a Master’s of Science in Health Sciences Education at Case Western Reserve University. He completed his medical degree at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and was awarded two Medal of Merit Awards from that alma mater.

Dr. Biscup is an active member of the American Osteopathic Association, American Medical Association, and the North American Spine Society. He is a fellow and past president of the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics and a former senior examiner of the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He receives widespread recognition and honors, including the Patient Advocacy Award from the American Academy of Pain Management and the Outstanding Educator Award from Cleveland Clinic’s Orthopedic Residency Training Program.
