“ To me Dr. Biscup should have “Miracle worker" after his name . After 30 years of back and leg pain in both legs, tons of pain medicine, therapy, injections, lotions ( you name it I tried it) for pain. Then I was told of Dr. Biscup. Being from Ohio I wasn’t sure if I wanted to fly down to Florida. His staff and everyone did make everything very easy. So in April of 2017 I had my surgery, ever since then I have not even taken a Tylenol. I am back playing golf and taking long rides with our old cars. I have never felt so good! Thank you Dr. Biscup and Staff !!”

“I am one of the most satisfied patients that have ever been spared discomfort and the growing inability to walk without shuffling. My recovery was aided by strenuous water workouts which I have continued. I fished two weeks for Atlantic salmon in heavy spring water on the Canadian Gaspe. I often waded 3 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon and evening. The guides and my fellow anglers were ‘dumbfounded’ by my ability to wade long distances over modestly rocky bottoms often waist deep. In August, I fished for 16 days on some of the Rocky Mountain best trout rivers and spring creeks. I had one fall due to my boot sticking deeply in mud. I fell gracefully backward and was retrieved by my host. The operation is a boundless success. It is impossible for me to adequately thank Dr. Biscup and his staff for the perfection of making the arrangements, the successful operation and keeping close overview of my recovery. At 84 years of age, my expectations have been exceeded! PS: I broke my age on the golf course before leaving Florida for our summer home in Maine.””

“I was diagnosed with Severe Spinal Stenosis at 3 levels along with herniated disc in the spring of last year. After the diagnosis, I immediately tried to advert surgery by contacting a pain management Doctor. He helped me establish a game plan including; Physical Therapy, Core Training and Stretching. I even consulted and used a Chiropractor. Each of these resources had some but temporary results. After having a scare of total numbness in my lower extremities, I decided to become proactive and find a physician that was the most capable to fix my problem. I consulted with many highly recommended doctors. I was surprised when all recommended a spinal fusion using metal hardware and screws, this would have been a life changing procedure. I am an active male in my early 60’s who enjoys: golfing, swimming, biking, boating, hiking and more. I was blessed to find Dr. Biscup who was the only one offering a minimally invasive procedure, which would fix all of my issues. He was highly recommended by close friends who had surgery by him; all of which have had remarkable recoveries. Two months after my surgery I was playing golf and continued all my other activities. I recently celebrated my 1-year anniversary since surgery, and I am happy to say that I am as strong and active as I have ever been with no negative effects. His reputation as a doctor in his field is well documented, I highly recommend him to anyone.”

“I was blessed be able to retire early at age 56. In addition to doing volunteer work, my wife and I intended to be very active and travel extensively. I enjoy golf, fishing, and especially senior softball. Shortly after retirement, I began to experience back pain which worsened over time. I was eventually diagnosed with spinal stenosis. I heard about Dr. Biscup from a friend at Knights of Columbus. After an MRI review, I decided to have the surgery with Dr. Biscup and I'm certainly glad I did. I went to a seminar in Naples, Florida given by Dr. Biscup. I was impressed by how well he described the surgery and the fact that he performed surgery himself. Dr. Biscup was able to do surgery without a laminectomy and without a fusion. This, I believe minimized my recovery time and allowed me to retain flexibility in my back. I also had two PRP injections in my facet joints. My back now feels better than it has in a long time. I am even back to softball and fishing with very little pain. I should also mention that throughout the process the entire staff including the physician assistant, office personnel, etc. were very professional and compassionate. They responded very quickly to any questions I may have had. I'm thankful to Dr. Biscup and the team for helping to improve the quality of my life”

“I submit this as a testimonial for Robert Biscup, MD. Prior to meeting Dr. Biscup, I had surgery for lumbar spine pathology in 2000 that was unsuccessful. Due to a continuation of severe pain and walking disability, I consulted Dr. Biscup at the recommendation of others who were pleased with their results. I had severe lumbar spinal stenosis, recurrent herniation of L3-L4 disc on the right and lumbosacral radiculopathy at L3-L4. Spinal surgery was performed on June 3, 2003. It was done microscopically. I have been completely free of pain ever since. I am a Hall of Fame ophthalmologist with an extensive medical practice. I have referred many patients and acquaintances to Dr. Biscup for evaluation and many had spinal surgery. I have been blessed time and again for these referrals. My physical recovery including a return to tennis and hiking has been phenomenal. I owe Dr. Biscup my everlasting gratitude.”

“I am so thankful that there is a Dr. Biscup. I couldn’t walk–had terrible pain, especially down my right leg. Dr. Biscup performed surgery, a microdiscectomy L4-L5, since I had herniated discs L4-L5. When I woke up in the recovery room I knew the surgery was a success. I was lying on my back with NO pain. I had not been able to lie on my back for three months until Dr Biscup helped me. A miracle! It is now three months later and we are back to our dancing which we love. I have not had pain since the surgery was performed though I did have certain “rules” to help in the healing process like no lifting, no bending and no twisting. Walking is still the best exercise for me and I’ve been able to walk since the first day after surgery. So happy to be able to walk with NO pain.”

“It gives me great pleasure to write about my completely positive experience with Dr Biscup and his staff. I had had problem with back pain and was diagnosed having spinal stenosis. It was causing severe leg pain down both my legs even on walking a few paces and was getting constant tingling and loss of sensation down my right leg. I saw an orthopedic surgeon in town but was not happy with the consultation and the plan of treatment. I then consulted the chief of service at the spine institute at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH. He suggested surgery and referred me to Dr. Biscup here. At my first visit, Dr. Biscup studied my MRI, sat down with me and explained my condition in detail and told me why surgery was the best option in my case. That in my opinion is the hallmark of a good physician and speaks of confidence in his knowledge and skill. I know that, as I am a physician myself. I had the minimally invasive spine surgery by Dr. Biscup, a procedure which he has been perfecting and writing about in medical journals for years. My results could not better. I have been completely symptom free and have been back to my normal physical activities including walking, swimming, and playing golf at least 3 times a week for well over a year. I am most grateful.”

“In 2006 at age 68, I was feeling very good about myself; I was in good health and had an active lifestyle. Then, out of nowhere, I started having severe back and leg pain. I was advised by my primary care physician to begin physical therapy. I diligently and optimistically had treatment four times a week. After six months, I finally had to face the reality that I wasn’t getting any better. The next step was an MRI which Dr. Biscup reviewed and advised me that I had spinal stenosis at three levels. Of his three options, I chose to have micro decompression. Two weeks later I had surgery. The very next morning, my husband picked me up from the hospital. That evening Don and I took a short walk on the beach promenade. Pain free. Joyful. Within three months, I was back to my regular active schedule–walking four miles a day, playing tennis, weight training, swimming and most amazingly, zip lining in Costa Rica. Pain is stressful and debilitating. Living without it is a gift. Thank you, Dr. Biscup for giving me my life back.”

“Both my husband, Don Medalie, and I had back issues. We tried everything to overcome our discomfort before thinking about spine surgery. We tried medications, physical therapy and our own program of swimming, walking and exercise, but we got no relief. I had heard about Dr. Biscup and micro-decompression surgery and decided to do it. At the time I was 67 years old and was tired of my physical limitations. (…) I had surgery in the morning, spent one night in the hospital and the following morning at 11AM, my husband took me home. I rested in the afternoon and at 5 P.M., we walked down to the beach. The pain was gone, the limitations forgotten and life began again. That was 7 years ago, and I have been pain free and living my life once again. 3 years later, my husband had the micro-decompression surgery, and we are both had the same amazing result. We walk 4 miles a day. We play tennis, hike, swim, dance, golf and have even zip lined in Costa Rica. Obviously, we are grateful everyday for being physically healthy again. We are now 74 and 77 and thank Bob Biscup every day for giving us our life back.”

“After many years of suffering with terrible back pain and much time spent in physical therapy, being limited in what I could do and having injections at pain clinics (which didn’t give relief), I FINALLY “found” Dr. Robert Biscup. My husband (retired urologist) and I attended a seminar given by Dr. Biscup and were very much impressed by the good doctor’s presentation. I immediately had confidence in this doctor! I had brought my latest MRI with me (which Dr. Biscup viewed) and then made an appointment with him. Soon thereafter Dr. Biscup operated on 3 spaces, one incision. I walked out of the hospital the next day and am a new woman! I followed instructions and did water therapy, physical therapy and took the supplements recommended and now enjoy many activities, especially walking, which I couldn’t do for several years. Many thanks, Dr. Biscup!”

“I am a 69 year old male who was diagnosed in 2008 with spinal stenosis in L-4 and L-5 and a cyst in S-1. I tried to live with it, but the back pain and restricted movement were hampering my life and the enjoyment of playing golf. In short, I looked and moved about as a much older person. I decided I was too young to live the remainder of my life in pain and thus not being able to enjoy life to the fullest. I attended several spinal seminars to gain some education. The last one I attended was on Marco Island, Fl. with Dr. Biscup on Feb. 3, 2012. I arrived a little early and had a chance to converse with him before the seminar. After the seminar, he evaluated my previous MRI. He indicated that if a new MRI confirmed the same as the old one that he thought he could help alleviate my pain and improve my posture. I was happy to learn that he would be doing the surgery himself. Long story short, we scheduled another MRI on Feb. 24. I had the surgery on March 1, 2012 (the stenosis was much worse than anticipated and was complicated by the existence of several cysts). Pain relief was almost immediate. I underwent five one hour therapy sessions, saw Dr. Biscup on March 30 (30 days after surgery) and played 18 holes of pain free golf the next week. I have played two or three times per week since. I am certainly glad I met Dr. Biscup and decided to go forward. His staff, the hospital staff, and the therapy staff were all very professional and enjoyable. I highly recommend Dr. Biscup!”

“My name is John C Scurtis residing in Coconut Grove Florida. I had been diagnosed with a severe case of Spinal Stenosis some three and 1/2 years ago. After visiting another doctor, I opted to visit Dr. Biscup who was referred to me by two previous patients of his. I visited with Dr.Biscup in his offices along with my MRI, at which time Dr. Biscup took approximately one and one half hours to explain to me the seriousness of my condition and how surgery was imminent (much less invasive than was proposed to me by the other physician.) Dr. Biscup bedside manner was most impressive and convinced me (along with the medical analysis given to me) that Dr. Biscup was the man that I wanted to operate on me. The rest is history, my surgery (lasted a little over 2 hours as I recall) and I was up and walking “pain free” post surgery. My surgery was considered successful, and three plus years later, I play with my grandchildren with no pain and play golf no less than three (3) days a week sometimes five. I credit Dr. Biscup for giving me back my quality of life and highly recommend Dr. Biscup for any surgical procedure you may be faced with.”

“I had two surgeries with Dr. Biscup, one in 2004, and again at Holy Cross Hospital in 2011. In 2004, I was diagnosed with lumbar spinal stenosis that was causing me a lot of painful discomfort, and it was determined through an MRI that surgery was necessary. Once I decided to go ahead with the surgical option, I sat down for weeks in front of the computer, in my quest to find the most qualified surgeon to perform the operation. I finally decided on Dr. Biscup for his qualifications, and later, after my first visit, for the most favorable personal impression I received. When eight years later I had again lower back difficulties, I went again without hesitation to Dr. Biscup. On both occasions I had almost miraculous results. I happen to be an avid golfer, and for a while thought I would never play again. Today, at 73, I am doing aerobics and exercises for an hour every morning, working with light weights to feel strong, doing stretching exercises, and still playing very good golf, almost as good as I played thirty years ago. Nowadays, I jump on the treadmill every morning, brisk walk and run for 45 minutes and then perform the other exercises for another 15 minutes. I feel great. I am truly grateful to Dr. Biscup.”

“In the fall of 2007 I was diagnosed as having Spinal Stenosis. Shortly after this diagnosis, my brother, a Fort Lauderdale resident, sent me an advertisement placed in a Fort Lauderdale newspaper. This advertisement informed its readers of the Biscup Institute and of the professional work of Dr. Robert Biscup in relieving the effects of Spinal Stenosis. I contacted the Biscup Institute and was given instructions concerning the information that Dr. Biscup would need in order to make a judgment in my case. I underwent an MRI in Philadelphia, the results of which were forwarded to Biscup Institute and Dr. Biscup accepted me as his patient. All my pre-operative procedures took place in Philadelphia. Dr. Biscup performed surgery on me in late February 2008, at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale. As a result of this surgery, I can now walk normally, carry out my everyday activities, and live without any pain or inconvenience. The surgery performed by Dr. Biscup has truly given me, at age 76, a new lease on life.”

“After I turned 60 my lower back pain began. Every year it became worse. I had a hard time standing with little moving…..walking was tolerable. I went to 3 orthopedists and one neurological surgeon. All of them told me “All we can do is put in rods and screws, and they probably won’t work”. The last orthopedist said, “Whatever you do, don’t let anyone talk you into rods and screws”. Several years passed. Walking became more difficult. I began to lean forward and lean to the side. I couldn’t stand up perfectly straight. I thought I was standing straight, but my husband and daughters said I wasn’t. My husband saw an ad for Dr. Biscup. He was giving a talk about his minimally invasive back surgery. (…) As Dr. Biscup spoke, my husband and I looked at each other……this was exactly what I needed. No other doctor (that I had seen) had offered the suggestion of removing the spinal stenosis from my vertebrae. I followed up with a visit, got a newer MRI and had the spine surgery. That was October of 2010. The day after the surgery I had no leg pain or lower back pain. I could finally stand up straight after several years of leaning forward. I was amazed. How lovely was this? The recovery time was very minor. No driving for a week. No stooping over for 6-8 weeks, no lifting over 10 lbs for 6-8 weeks……and best of all, get into the pool after 1 week and do some minor exercises. Before the surgery I attended water aerobics classes 5 days a week for about 3 years……….I gradually eased back into the routine after a few months. It’s now the end of June, 2012. I’m about to turn 71 and my back is still great.”

“For three years I suffered from progressive pain caused by two severely deteriorated vertebrae (Lumbar: 3-4 and 4-5). After having the necessary x-rays and MRI, I researched the problem in order to understand the implications of stenosis (arthritis) that affected 1). the nerves stemming from the vertebras, 2). constriction of the spinal cord, and 3). deformation of the spinal discs. The pain was constant. I couldn’t walk upright, carry any weight, or stand without the assistance of a cane or shopping cart. I consulted with six different neurosurgeons from Palm Beach, Broward and Dade. Two of them said my problem could easily be resolved with a simple lapendectomy (removing the top portion of the spine in order to alleviate the pressure on the nerves going to the legs); however, the spinal cord problem was ignored as well as the herniated discs. Two other neurosurgeons recommended an X-Stop procedure, a metal wedge inserted between two vertebras to relieve the pressure on the leg nerves, but like the lapendectomy it only resolved the pain in the legs. The back pain caused by the arthritic pressure on the spinal cord and the discs were also ignored. Further, I was assured that a second wedge was not necessary. Later I discovered from other sources that the reason for not implanting two wedges is because of the pronounced stooping it would cause. Four doctors advised inappropriate procedures that would have left me in the same semi-invalid condition, which would have needed corrective surgery within a short time. Only two surgeons, Dr. Biscup and a well-known surgeon at a leading Miami hospital, diagnosed the problem correctly and recommended appropriate corrective procedures. Both doctors recommended that the opening surrounding the spinal cord would need scraping, the discs trimmed, and the nerve openings enlarged. The difference was not in what they did, but in how it was done. The first doctor recommended a traditional procedure that would have removed the top half of the vertebrae, cleaned out the obstructing growth and then reattached the two halves. It would have taken nearly six months for the surgery to heal. My major concern was that, if by some chance the vertebrae did not join together correctly, the operation is irreversible. I opted for Dr. Biscup’s recommendation of using microscopic, laser surgery. It is less invasive, reversible in the case of failure, and has a significantly shorter recovery time. This amazing procedure, technically referred to as Micro-Discectomy/Micro-Decompression surgery, was performed without cutting any vertebrae. Instead, through a small two-inch incision, a laser beam and miniature instruments were inserted and used to melt and scrape away excess osseous deposits. Unbelievably, and to the amazement of the attending nurses, I was able to walk within a few hours of the surgery. Indeed, had it not been for my heart condition, which needed overnight monitoring, I would have gone home that same day. Even the nurses who were originally skeptical of this new procedure were totally surprised; I was Dr. Biscup’s first patient at Holy Cross Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale after he left Cleveland Clinic at Weston. Within four days I was driving and if I wasn’t retired I would have been able to return to my office. After two weeks I felt wonderful, with no pain in my back or left leg, only some minor pain still lingered in my right leg. Today, after five months, the right leg is normal. I am very glad I chose Dr. Biscup. My Medicare and supplemental insurance would have paid for the other competent surgeon’s operation or for any of the others I rejected. Though Dr. Biscup opted out of the Medicare program and, in spite of the cost, I felt he was the most appropriate doctor. I also learned through my research that Dr. Biscup is one of the pioneers who developed this procedure. It was the correct choice and the best investment I could have made. I am free from all pain and can again enjoy my family and perform all the activities of daily life.”

“The Biscup Spine Institute is top notch and second to none. Their professionalism, kindness and caring has raised the bar in the spine orthopedic arena. I am eternally grateful to the Biscup Spine Institute, they will forever live in my heart. Dr. Biscup’s knowledge, abilities, skills and experience supersedes all other surgeons. These qualities were so important to me while searching for the most qualified doctor, however, I learned, he gave so much more. Not only does he posses all the previous attributes, his genuine compassion and concern overwhelms me. I had visited Dr. Biscup after having a prior back surgery from another spine specialist 3 years ago. I was not confident enough in this other surgeon any longer. In the past, after trying almost everything and anything to rid this awful pain, nothing worked, I entered into despair. I began to give up. I knew soon I needed to make one of the most important and potential life altering decisions. At 44 years old, having a lifetime in front of me, I needed to make the right choice. Not only did I absolutely make the right decision, Dr. Biscup exceeded my expectations. There simply is no one else like him, I am so thrilled because he truly saved my life. He really took care of me. In Dec 2008 Dr. Biscup and his terrific P.A. Jon Booher performed my surgery at Holy Cross Hospital. I had a Transforaminal Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion L5/S1 on the right and Microdecompression on the left. I entered into this surgery knowing I had the world’s greatest doctor. My confidence level was right at the top, where it should be. I knew I was in the best hands. Once I awoke after the surgery, the tremendous pain that had radiated in my low back and down my left leg was gone. I was so happy, so, so happy… finally after years of continual debilitating, heart stopping pain, it was gone. I feel like I hit the lotto! 10 days post surgery I found myself once again engaged in one of my life’s passions, snorkeling, very cautiously and carefully, but yes viewing the under world sea that I so love, even recently, catching a lobster or two. I am amazed. It has been two months since my surgery, and still no pain! I have not felt this good in 15 years, recognizing my much improved posture, with my spine aligned properly, I am in awe of Dr. Biscup. He has positively changed my life and I couldn’t be happier. He has made a major impression on my husband, my family and friends, for these are the ones who so desperately wanted to help me but didn’t know what to do for me anymore. So the million thanks is not only from me, it extends to the doctor from my loved ones. My life is exciting and new again. Although the recovery for the fusion and bone to heal may take a little more time, it is all worth waiting for. I know before too long my wonderful husband will have his deep sea fishing buddy back and I’ll be ready to “dive” into action. In some ways, this experience has been a thrill of a lifetime, because there was a time I was doubting that I would be able to live my life as I dreamed, without severe and excruciating pain. Tears of joy roll down my face when someone asks “how are you doing?” It’s all joy…. There just aren’t enough heartfelt words to say how truly grateful I am. Thank you Dr. Biscup, my dreams have come true.”

“Several years ago, I first suffered from stenosis which caused significant pain down the front of my left leg. I was referred to Dr. Biscup through a mutual physician/friend who had been helped through Dr. Biscup’s micro decompression surgery. I went from a wheelchair (coming home from London) to the surgery three days later, and walked out of the hospital the next day with literally no pain. The size of my incision was small enough to be covered by a band aid. I returned to golf, which I had not been able to play for six months, within thirty days after the operation. A year later, I had a similar experience with my right leg, and again was unable to walk without enormous pain. Dr. Biscup repeated the procedure on the right side and again I was pain free the next day subsequent to the surgery. I am now playing golf regularly, free of pain. I have good mobility in my upper body, however, my golf scores are still less than brilliant. Nevertheless, I will always be grateful to Dr. Biscup for his incredible ability to relieve my pain and the symptoms I have just described in a minimally invasive procedure.”

“While experiencing six months of back pain without relief after seeing three doctors, having two spinal injections and weeks of therapy, I learned about Dr. Biscup scheduling a back pain seminar at our Naples Hospital and decided to attend. I was so thoroughly impressed with his presentation and scope of spinal knowledge, that I arranged an appointment with him to discuss my back pain and MRI. He went over the MRI from top to bottom and pointed out the cause for pain was a cyst in the vertebra putting pressure on the sciatic nerve. By removing the cyst, the pressure would be gone along with the pain. He further explained that I would be in the hospital one day for surgery and home the next. He also recommended taking therapy in water. In a few days I decided to schedule spine surgery based on my confidence of Dr. Biscup’s orthopedic knowledge, along with his skill and experience with minimally invasive spine surgery. Since surgery, the pain has not returned nor have I needed any pain medication. Dr. Biscup’s professionalism and well-trained staff performed far beyond my highest expectations.”

“I learned of Dr. Robert Biscup from two friends. One of the friends had just had back surgery from the Dr. prior to my appointment. I went on the internet and after studying all the information, I called and made an appointment at the Naples office. My husband and I went to the appointment and found a very pleasant atmosphere and extremely informative meeting with the Doctor. After discussing the entire information, I was scheduled for more tests. I was somewhat a high risk patient because Of COPD, but my Doctor and Dr. Biscup worked together on this matter to come up with the right anesthetic etc. The spinal stenosis I had was between the 4th and 5th lumbar vertebrae and was causing severe pain in my back, hip and down my right leg, making it impossible to sleep at night. I also was having great difficulty walking, standing and climbing stairs. Other means of treatment like shots had done nothing to relieve this. Dr. Biscup did spine surgery on the 4th of April 2011, and I have had no discomfort since. The recovery was short lived and the scar minute. I am a new person and back to doing advanced water aerobics at age 75, thanks to Dr. Biscup and his procedure.”

“I first learned about Dr. Biscup and his spine institute during my annual stay in Naples in the fall of 2011. I began a dialogue with his staff that led to an appointment at Dr. Biscup’s office in Naples. I was immediately impressed with Dr. Biscup and his way of informing you of his observation of the problem and how to handle it. After an MRI and another consultation, we decided to proceed with the microdiscectomy surgery, which was performed on March 1, 2012. I was on the golf course 4 weeks later and after 5 weeks of physical therapy, I am seeing some good results. My case was complicated by a hip replacement about 1 ½ years ago that was causing me much pain when walking. After nearly 3 months, I continue to have improvement and hopefully by July 1, I will be pain free. It seems apparent that Dr. Biscup’s diagnosis was “dead on”. “I am 71 years old and in the late summer of 2010 I was diagnosed as having spinal stenosis. My family doctor recommend that I see a Neurosurgeon about the possibility of having surgery. The surgeon thought that it would be a good idea and explained that I would be laid up from several months and that he would not guarantee that I would be pain free. I went back to my General Practitioner who suggested that if the pain wasn’t real bad to hold off until I could not stand the pain any longer. For better than a year, I did exercises, worked out, and took pain pills has my Doctor recommended. The pain and discomfort got worse, and I really didn’t like the possible outcome that the surgeon explained. Then in the September of 2011, my Doctor ordered another MRI and he explained that in his opinion my spinal stenosis was getting worse. Taking the advice of a friend of mine, I sent Dr. Biscup my MRI, and in less than a week Dr. Biscup personally called me and reviewed my situation and MRI. On Wednesday October 5, 2012 at 7:30 AM, in Holy Cross Hospital, in Ft. Lauderdale, Dr. Biscup performed a Microdecompression Laminoplasty L3-L4 and L4-L5. On Thursday October 6, 2011, at 11:00 AM I walked out of the hospital, and to this day I have had NO PAIN. I must say that the Holy Cross Hospital was fantastic too. Dr. Biscup provided me with a complete rehab procedure, which I started 12 days after surgery, and I have done my exercises every day since. My General Practitioner is so impressed with my outcome that he has given Dr. Biscup’s exercises to a number of his patients. For the record, since 8 weeks after my surgery I have been playing golf at least 3 to 4 times a week and feel like a million dollars.”

“I fell during a tennis game after my Cleveland Cubs Opening Day, just after my 82nd birthday. Having met Dr. Biscup when he operated on two members of my family, including my wife, I was aware of his expertise in healing and he was my “go to.” The pain manifested in my “good” right leg. I say good because I suffered Polio when I was a youngster. After studying my MRI, Dr. Biscup determined that the pain was actually in my back and though he initially prescribed a steroid program as a starting point, it was not effective. At our next meeting we talked about the minimally invasive procedure that Dr. Biscup invented and that he has had so much success with. Yes, I had reservations, but I also have confidence in Dr. Biscup’s surgical ability and skills. I took the first available appointment and had the surgery. When I woke up the pain was gone from my leg. I am here to tell you that today I am pain free and out playing tennis with the guys.”

“To date nine and a half months after the operation, I am living a better life, and can now continue to go on cruises with my wife and in general enjoy my retirement, a situation which was not possible until the intervention of Dr Robert Biscup, who I am so grateful to for letting me live a new life of comfort. I must also commend all of Dr Biscup’s administrative support staff, who were very efficient and continually checked with me frequently after the operation for updates as to my recovery progress.”

“I had conventional back surgery back in 1999. Even though the recovery was painful and lengthy, it was successful and eventually I was able to get back to my regular routine. I was pain free for a number of years, but a few years ago a new, nagging leg pain manifested itself in the right leg and shin area. My trips to the gym became less frequent, eventually I stopped going. After a while I knew it was time to have it taken care of. How fortunate I was to be introduced to Dr. Robert Biscup. The office staff was very professional and pleasant. During the consultation, Dr. Biscup suggested micro-decompression surgery at the L3-L4, L4-L5 levels. Dr. Biscup explained that the procedure was minimally invasive spine surgery and would take about an hour. After surgery I was amazed at the short recovery time. I just stayed overnight in the hospital and the pain from surgery was minimal. The next morning, was home and two days later I was walking outside for 15 minutes. It has been eight months since surgery. I have been back in the gym for a few months. It’s great to be back. I think I’m almost ready to take up spinning again. My sincere thanks to Dr. Biscup and his very caring Physician’s Assistant, John Booher; thank God I was in such outstanding professional hands.”

“I have always been a very active person. My usual exercise routine would include jogging, power walking, biking, yoga, and kayaking. Last year, however, I began to experience severe pain in my lower back and down my right leg. My ability to exercise decreased and it became very difficult to walk even a couple of miles, a few times a week. At around the same time, Dr. Biscup performed surgery on my boyfriend’s mom. The surgery was life changing for her, so shortly afterwards I contacted Dr. Biscup. At 44 years old, I was diagnosed with two herniated disks (L3-L4 and L4-L5), stenosis and spinal degeneration. Dr. Biscup recommended micro-discectomy and a minimally invasive procedure that involves custom sphere implants without fusion of the spine. As with all surgeries, there are some risks. I had a “drop foot” after surgery, but am now pain free and enjoying Pilates, walking on the beach, and kayaking. What I gained from this experience is that the key to a quick and full recovery is choosing a quality surgeon and being committed to following a consistent physical therapy regimen. I am very glad I contacted Dr. Biscup and highly recommend him and his talented and caring team to anyone looking for a solution to his or her back pain. Don’t wait any longer; quality care is just a phone call away.”

“I was in so much pain with Spinal Stenosis, I honestly didn’t know what to do. I went to another doctor and was told my only option was steroid shots. They told me that surgery would not help me. After the Doctor gave me this news, I was so taken back and disappointed, I sat there and cried. The doctor handed me a tissue and walked out of the room. (I know he doesn’t need a cry baby in his office.) After doing research on the Internet, I came across Dr. Biscup’s web site. I was impressed with what I read and sent him a copy of my MRI results. After hearing from the Doctor, I scheduled a meeting with him, and me and my husband drove to his office. The Doctor sat down with us for about an hour. He went over, step by step, what he saw on my MRI and what my options were. I was honestly excited about have laser surgery to relieve my pain. It’s been 2 years this month, and I feel very good. I still exercise and stretch every day. I highly recommend Dr. Biscup and wouldn’t hesitate to call him again, if need be. Thank you!”

“My episodes of back pain have had several etiologies and have involved multiple levels from L3-L-4 through L5 – S1. Each surgery was preceded by denial, with hopes that my symptoms would go away, and with frustration at the failure of conservative treatment. Each time the microsurgical procedures offered immediate relief from the severe back and leg pain I was experiencing. I was back to driving and back to my work in the medical field within two weeks. I now have pain free nights and days. In 2007 I was able to travel extensively through Finland, Russia, and several of the Baltic States just four months after surgery. This year I am planning to participate in out church mission project in Belize where I will help to build a school. In October I will traveling to Morocco and intend to tide a camel. Not bad for a 70 year old. I have recommended Dr. Biscup and Dr. Whitfield often and cannot express my appreciation loudly enough for their knowledge and surgical expertise. A special thanks to John Booher who gives our P.A. (Physician’s Assistant) profession the ideal example of the level at which a P.A. is capable of performing.”

  • The bottom line – No more pain!

“I began to suffer from general lower back pain somewhere around 1995, after the birth of my twins. I can only guess that carrying around two car seats, two babies, and everything else that comes along with it created my back problems. Over the years, the problem got progressively worse. My first visits to doctors led to medications and physical therapy. None of it really helped. Over time, the pain I had was not only in my back, but came to include my right leg. The pain began to get in the way of doing every day activities. Being a teacher, I was on my feet a lot. After a long day at work, I would sometimes find myself limping home. I had to quit my jazzercise class because it became too painful for me to continue. A day at the mall became an hour at the mall. It hurt too much to do the walking. Even regular evening walks with my husband had to be shortened on many occasions. Driving my car was painful at times. Apparently, my sciatic nerve was being effected by my herniated disc. This pain could be excruciating and unbearable at times. After searching for the right doctor, two different friends of mine, one in the medical field, highly recommended Dr. Biscup. An MRI was ordered and revealed the damage the herniated disc (L5) was causing. It was definitely affecting the nerve. Dr. Biscup recommended a discectomy with disc arthoplasty. My first reaction was to search for other options. The thought of “surgery” scared me. There had to be something else I could do. I tried injections of cortisone in my back. Yes, I felt great, for about two weeks. The pain came back. Here I was, a woman in her 40’s, with this kind of severe pain. If I didn’t address this issue now, what would my life be like in 10 years? I finally accepted the fact that I needed surgery. I went for another visit to Dr. Biscup and discussed the surgical procedure. I was amazed at how simple it all sounded. After researching my options, it was easy to choose Dr. Biscup to do this surgery. I had a great deal of confidence in his extensive experience, ability, and talent in this highly specialized field. Dr. Biscup was the only choice I would consider. As if that weren’t enough, someone at work told me of a friend who had the same exact surgery with Dr. Biscup several months before. I immediately called this stranger for her input. This person had only wonderful things to say about her surgery and Dr. Biscup. Most importantly, her recovery was quick and she was now free of pain. It was the terrific “extra” confirmation that I found. The surgery went smoothly. Dr. Biscup, as well as his physician’s assistant, John Booher, was incredibly attentive and caring throughout the procedure. I truly felt that I was being “looked after”. I was up and walking the very next day. I went home on a Thursday, less than 24 hours after surgery, and on Saturday, I was already walking in my pool for some light physical therapy. I was amazed at how well I was feeling. The pain medication bottle I was sent home with is still sitting in my medicine cabinet, mostly full! I went to physical therapy for almost three months which taught me how to keep myself strong and fit. It took a while for the sciatic pain to settle down, but three months later, that pain completely disappeared! It is now six months later, and I can kneel at Church, shop all day at the mall, take power walks at night with my husband, and exercise! I still feel a bit of stiffness in my lower back, but this is continuing to improve as I continue to stretch and exercise. The bottom line – No more pain!”

Biscup.”

“For several years I suffered from pain from time to time in my lower back L-4-5 and in my left leg. I had microscopic surgery 1996. I was better, but still had some pain issues from time to time. Last summer (2007) I was not able to play golf as pain was getting severe. I went to two doctors in Chicago. They both gave me injections in L4-5. I was taking very strong pain medication. I came to Florida in October. In Florida I saw three doctors (two are very recognized neurosurgeons.) They all said no to surgery because of too many back pain issues. Again there were more injections, which were just a Band-Aid. I heard from a couple of friends about Dr Biscup. I was so excited when he told me he could help me. He requested that I get a stand-up MRI. There he found I had bone fragments from surgery before, a cyst, and a bulging disc. These were all pressing on the same nerve. I decided to have surgery and I was so happy when I woke from surgery with NO PAIN! I’m still in therapy, and work out at the gym. I feel I’ll be playing golf in a few weeks. It’s been about 10 weeks since my surgery. Once in awhile I may take 2 Advil at night. My left leg is getting stronger everyday. I’m so grateful as I was almost ready to give up. Dr Biscup gave me back my quality of life.”

“Back in 1984, while I was a firefighter, I hurt my back. I saw several doctors and had many different treatments. In 2006 my back went altogether and I was bedridden or in a wheelchair for two months. I was living on pain pills. I saw several doctors and had MRIs and X-rays, but they all said my back was too bad and none of them could help me with my injury and my Spinal Stenosis. Very frustrated with this diagnosis, my wife went on the internet and found Dr. Biscup. We made an appointment with him to see if there was any hope. I told him that I had spent my life helping other people as a fire fighter and now I could not even get myself in and out of bed. He looked at me and said that he respected what police and fire fighters do and now it was his turn to help me. I had my surgery and literally walked out of the hospital the next day. I owe my life to Dr. Biscup for giving me back mine. I now do everything including mowing the grass, riding my motorcycle, working out in the gym, whatever I choose to do I can now do with ease.”

“Dr. Biscup performed micro-surgery on my spine in August of 2007. My decision to use Dr. Biscup was based on several factors. I consulted other surgeons who perform traditional spinal stenosis surgery. The surgery was explained to me as cutting away a piece of my spine, cleaning out the problem area, and refitting the cut out part with screws. This entailed a recovery period of several months as well as wearing a back brace, while the spine healed. Dr. Biscup’s microsurgical procedure, on the other hand, involved a 2 inch long incision, instantaneous relief and a recovery period of only a few weeks. After working with Dr. Biscup and his talented team I can recommend them without reservations.”

“I first met Dr. Biscup in 2003. I had developed severe leg pain in both legs from my buttocks to my calves. I had a MRI which showed severe spinal stenosis at L-4. I am a retired orthopedic surgeon as of Oct. 2001. Two of my former residents who had taken spine fellowships in minimally invasive spine surgery under Dr. Biscup recommended that I see him. I flew to Florida and had spine surgery. In the recovery room, the pain was totally relieved and I left the hospital and took my wife to lunch. I did not take any pain medication. In 2006, I bent over and blew out my L-3 disc and lost the quadriceps muscle in my left leg and was unable to walk without a walker. Dr. Biscup did emergency surgery a few evenings later. Once again, I had no back pain or leg pain postoperatively and my quads returned within 4 weeks. In Dec. 2011, I developed severe pain after kneeling in church. An MRI revealed a herniated disc at L-5. I was unable to walk because of the pain and had surgery in Jan. 2012. Once again no pain in the recovery room and went home that evening. I have had 3 back surgeries, each at a different level and never had post-op pain. I would definitely recommend Dr. Biscup to anyone having symptoms from the low back that would require surgery. This is from an orthopedic surgeon who performed hundreds of spine surgeries.”
