Regenerative Medicine

Biscup Spine's Regenerative Medicine program helps the body repair itself through orthobiologics and platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy.

Medicine and Treatment for Back Pain

Dr. Biscup has continually developed innovative methodologies in orthopedic care throughout his 35-year career. Biologic medicine treatments that boost self-healing processes by leveraging the body’s own cellular material are a less invasive treatment for patients with chronic injuries.

Types of therapy

Biscup Spine utilizes the following novel approaches to administering regenerative medicine:

Enhanced Platelet Rich Plasma (ePRP): While platelets were historically known for clotting properties, new studies have shown that they are richly nourished with white blood cells, proteins, growth factors, and stem cell markers that can be utilized to spur the regeneration of damaged tissues. Dr. Biscup can extract these healing factors from a sample of blood and reinject the concentration into the area of injury. The process and post-procedure recovery mirror that of therapeutic BMAC injections.

Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC): Cells derived from bone marrow contain vital components such as hematopoietic, endothelial, and mesenchymal stem cells that can be utilized for the repair of various tissues and the formation of bony structures, as well as the support of circulation. When a patient undergoes a BMAC procedure, Dr. Biscup extracts and collects a sample of bone marrow from the pelvic region using the Marrow Cellution Needle™, and then reinjects the sample into the affected area. The procedure can take roughly 30 minutes, is performed within the office setting, and allows patients to leave the same day with minimal downtime. In fact, most of patients can return to normal daily activities within one to two days and full functionality within a few months.
